Marlene Hickman is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Educator, Author, Child Abuse Survivor  & Motivational Speaker.

Marlene’s personal mission in life is to empower you to loose the broken in you that is limiting you from being the best you.

Marlene’s message is simple :

Use the fruits of the spirit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and faithfulness to become the best you. 

Born in Kingston, Jamaica to a teenager mother, her mother left her with her paternal grandmother in the hills of St. Ann, Jamaica. Marlene was later raised in a home where she experienced child-hood abuse and it resulted in her running away to New York at 17 years old.

In New York, Marlene became a mother at 18 years old, was homeless and an illegal alien while in pursuit of the American  Dream. Marlene utilized faith, prayer and hope to achieve her personal goals while struggling with the trauma of childhood abuse while on a journey of personal of forgiveness.

Marlene is a graduate of Westwood High School, Jamaica and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science (Magna Cum Laude) – Mercy College, New York and a Master of Science Degree in Social Work - Yeshiva University, New York .

Marlene has held positions as S.I.F.I Instructor at New York University and Adjunct Professor at Long Island University Master of Social Work Program. 

Marlene has been involved in community projects of facilitating workshops for families in Bronx, New York and utilizes social media platforms to educate on mental health in her Positive Food for Our Mental Health Series under her Loosethebroken Movement.

Marlene recently published her first book a memoir – The Lies I Tell that chronicles her early childhood in Jamaica of childhood abuse and of her journey in New York as a teen age runaway. A journey of having a child at 18 years old, homelessness, navigating life as an undocumented “illegal alien”, the impact of childhood abuse in her relationships while on a journey of personal of forgiveness.

Marlene was awarded the New York City Health and Hospital’s Social Worker Of The Year Award in Psychiatry 2017.

Marlene believes her greatest achievement in life is to be able to testify on God’s grace and mercies.
